The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.

These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in our area and province.

They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Sunday, March 27th, 2022, to Saturday, April 2nd, 2022.

1. Foreign “tourist” seriously injured at altercation outside Pratumnak Soi 5 restaurant

This particular story drew LOTS of comments and we had lots of private emails and messages about the incident. Pattaya police ultimately sided with the restaurant, saying they acted appropriately and the customer was extremely drunk and uncooperative.

Our readers, however, were less than shocked. Pattaya police have also reportedly requested a permanent closure for the venue from the governor.

3.  Elderly American man found deceased in a condo with a plastic bag over his head in Pattaya

Pattaya Police deemed it a suicide, although ace investigators in our comments section who were neither at the scene nor involved in the incident had different opinions and suspicions.

4.  Pattaya fireworks voted as one of the top three marine events in Asia

Congratulations! The next one is not yet scheduled, however, due to ongoing uncertainty about the Covid-19 situation in Pattaya.

5.  Election season officially kicks off as Pattaya mayor candidates draw their numbers

6. Out with Songkran, in with rice

No water, alcohol, or big parties are allowed this year due to a ban (because of Covid) for the third year in a row, instead, we will get sandcastle building and religious ceremonies.

7. Pattaya business owners and leaders want entertainment venue restrictions eased and lifted

It will be ONE YEAR on April 10th that these venues have been legally closed or restricted. They are operating as “restaurants” currently in a grey area, but due to many rules, extra certifications, and other issues they are pushing to legally be reopened and end 11:00 P.M. closing times.
