Pattaya, Thailand-
Pattaya police were reportedly shocked to find a local “restaurant” open at 1:30 A.M. this morning and full of clients not following Covid-19 measures in effect still in Chonburi.
The raid took place at 1:30 A.M. on Soi Kor Pai at the Casanova Karaoke and Pub. The raid was led by Pol. Lt. Col. Yuttana Leungsakul and took place after officers noticed many motorbikes and cars in the parking lot and that the venue appeared to be open.
Legally, all bars and nightlife are still closed in Thailand due to Covid-19 measures and have been allowed to be temporary restaurants. However, they must close by 11:00 P.M. and be a restaurant atmosphere, according to law enforcement, which means no dancing, singing, pool tables, and other elements of an entertainment venue.
According to Lt. Col. Yuttana, the venue was full of customers violating Covid19 measures, not social distancing, not wearing masks, and other violations.
Pattaya police tested customers for illegal drugs and stated several were positive, although did not reveal the substance or exact number of positive people to the press. Those people were arrested and taken into custody. They will face charges of illegal drug usage.
The venue operator will face multiple charges including operating a nightlife venue illegally, opening past the legal closing time, and violating Chonburi Communicable Disease orders. Their name, however, was not released by law enforcement.
