Thailand-
The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.
This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, following up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication. This week, we cover the fifth week of AUGUST 2020, from Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 to Saturday, August 29th, 2020.
Let’s get into the top stories from this week LAST year!
1. Pattaya City Law Enforcement and Homeless Protection Officials brainstorm over what to do about escalating Pattaya homeless problem
One year later, they are still brainstorming. In fact, the problem has escalated due to months of business closures and restrictions in Pattaya.
2. Saving Pattaya Beach: Our Thai readers give suggestions on how to encourage domestic tourists to Pattaya Beach
This is an interesting look back at reader suggestions on improvements to the beach as the city begins/attempts to begin a remodel and refurbishment. Some of these items are on the agenda, some are not.
3. Pattaya launches mobile sterilization and vaccination truck for stray cats and dogs as the animal population in Pattaya increases
Like the homeless situation, the period of business closures and lockdowns since April of this year have once again caused the stray animal population to rise significantly in the Pattaya and Jomtien area. The truck, however, does continue to visit parts of the local area and assist where they can.
4. Lopburi gold shop mass shooter is sentenced to the death penalty by the Thai Criminal Court today
He remains on “death row” to this date, but overall people were satisfied with this sentence.

5. Small seaplane crashes at Mabprachan reservoir, pilot survives with no injuries
This was a fairly popular local story last year! Do you remember it?
