The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.

These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in our area and province.

  1. Pattaya Songkran to take place, but only traditional and religious events despite protests from tourism and business associations

For the THIRD year in a row Pattaya’s biggest party and festival, Songkran, the Thai New Year, or Water Festival, is essentially trimmed down to just religious and ceremonial events. Although many ex-pats may be happy to hear this who despise the crowds and getting wet, tourism and business owners, who depend on the “fun” parts to make a living, are not.

  3.  Creamfields EDM music festival coming to Pattaya?

Speaking of massive events…Creamfields has now officially said they plan on coming to Pattaya later this year. Of course, that will require basically all Covid-19 restrictions, rules, and bans to be lifted to be successful. As of now, events like this remain banned, as does nightlife legally.

  4.  Mayor race heating up as Sonthaya Khunplume steps down, decides not to run for election

The election will be on May 22nd and should be a major event for Pattaya. For our expat readers, it will mostly mean a dry day for alcohol.

  5. Beach summer food festival to take place at Central Mall throughout April

Of course, many Covid-19 rules, including mandatory ATK testing (rapid tests) will be in effect for the concerts.
