Thailand-
The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.
This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, following up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication.
This week, we cover the second week of February 2021, from Sunday, February 7th, 2021 to Saturday, February 12th, 2021.

Let’s go!
1. Walking Street is open for business, but still struggling for tourists
Unfortunately, things are not yet much better with still complex procedures to enter Thailand to visit and, technically, nightlife and entertainment still closed-they are “restaurants” now, but giant nightclubs and dancing places, including gogos, are still under strict rules.
2. No private companies or local governments can purchase Covid-19 vaccinations for local distribution at this time, says Thai Public Health Minister
Luckily, this did change, with Pattaya being one area that allowed local purchase.
3. Pattaya Mayor plans to make Pattaya a world-class tourist city like Dubai, Miami, or Singapore after Covid-19
Well, this remains to be seen as Covid-19 is still, unfortunately, ongoing. This proposal, however, drew widespread derision and jabs on social media.
4. Tourism Minister urges Thai government to distribute money to tourism and hospitality employees nationwide to help them cope with Covid-19 financial crisis
Some assistance was eventually given, however, was likely much less than what people had hoped for.
5. Pattaya entertainment venues ask Chonburi governor and CCSA to allow bars and nightlife to open until at least midnight
A year later, the venues are not even legally open and closing time is still 11:00 P.M., unfortunately.
6. Pattaya City planning to build two massive almost fifteen-foot tall dolphin statues at Dolphin Roundabout as a new landmark
A year later, no giant dolphin statues and nothing new about the proposal.
7. Thailand’s Public Health Authority advises people to keep their distance during Valentine’s
This year, they advised (to equal negative criticism on social media) for couples to take Covid-19 tests before getting “intimate”.
That is all for this week! Have a safe week ahead!
