Thailand-

The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.

This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, following up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.

As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication.

This week, we cover the third week of December 2020, from Sunday, December 13th, 2020 to Saturday, December 19th, 2020.

1.  Pressure grows to reopen Thai borders with fewer restrictions

One year later, Thailand has suspended Test and Go as of yesterday, December 21st, 2021, in response to still ongoing concerns around Covid-19, specifically the new Omicron variant. Very few people predicted that a year later from this article borders would still be in flux.

2.  Thailand to build its own spacecraft to orbit the moon within seven years

Only six to go. Do you think this will happen? Is it, with everything going on currently, still a reasonable goal to reach?

3.  Thai Government says strict quarantine and entry requirements will extend well into 2021.

This is one prediction that, unfortunately, stayed 100% true.

Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs says quarantine and strict entry will extend “well into next year”

4.  Thai police investigate fraud in “We Travel Together” scheme

This is the reason this plan was suspended quickly and replaced with more strict plans this year.

5. Major Covid-19 outbreak at a fish market in Samut Sakhon

This was the big news last year that eventually canceled New Year’s events and celebrations and sent the country back into its second “lockdown” for about five weeks. The biggest period of restrictions and lockdowns, however, would not come until April.
