Memorials for the Swiss tourist, Nicole Sauvain Weisskopf, 57, who died in the Phuket Sandbox under suspicious circumstances last week, were held Friday night (August 6th) and have continued on a smaller scale over the weekend as information about the heinous crime continues to come in.
Phuket police from the Wichit Police station confirmed on August 5th, 2021, that a foreign female tourist believed to be a Swiss national in her 50’s and confirmed as a Phuket Sandbox tourist, was found dead at the Ton Ao Yon waterfall in Wichit, Phuket.
The Phuket Governor and related provincial authorities expressed their condolences in the case of a female tourist from Switzerland found dead near the Ton Ao Yon Waterfall in Phuket.
The latest in the investigation as of Sunday, August 8th, 2021, in which a 27-year-old unemployed Thai national who lived nearby has reportedly admitted to the crime, can be read by clicking here.
On Friday (July 6th) Thai authorities, led by the head of the Royal Thai Police, the Phuket Governor, and Swiss embassy officials have placed flowers in tribute to the 57-year-old victim, Nicole Sauvain Weisskopf, who was a deputy protocol chief with the Federal Assembly of Switzerland.
The Phuket Governor Rarong Woonciew stated at the memorial, “Ms. Sauvain-Weisskopf loved beaches and the sea. She loved Phuket as her second home.”
“Her death is a big loss for Phuket people, Phuket Sandbox, and Thailand.”
“I hope that the loss of her life will be the last tragedy for tourists in Phuket. We are doing our best to make Phuket safe for every person on the island.” Rarong Woonciew concluded.
Over the past weekend, people have also been leaving flowers and tributes at the entrance to the trail leading to the waterfall where she lost her life last week. The prime suspect, Teerawat Tothip, 27, remains in custody and has a court appearance tomorrow, August 9th, 2021. He has admitted to killing the tourist, according to Royal Thai Police, but claims it was essentially a botched attempt to steal her belongings and that he didn’t intend to kill her. He denies allegations of sexual assault, which police are still investigating.
