Thailand-
The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.
This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, following up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication.
This week, we cover the fourth week of November 2020, from Sunday, November 22nd, 2020 to Saturday, November 28th, 2020.
1. Special video report: The status of the Waterfront Condo in Pattaya
The Waterfront continues to sit on Bali Hai Pier, a subject of great debate. Here is the story of the structure. The city still wants to bring it down, although the construction company behind it recently proposed bringing down the number of floors, again, despite multiple protests from environmental groups.

2. Pro-democracy protests continue in Bangkok
Protests were still going strong last year although this year is not as widespread, both due to Covid-19 and many major protest leaders being in jail.
3. Total smoking ban urged in condos in Thailand
This law has still not been passed, a year later, although many condos privately ban the practice.
4. Thai cabinet says they will tackle air pollution
We will see if their plan works as we are now approaching the yearly burning and pollution season. In a sign that this year will likely still see issues, officials have warned they have been “delayed” by Covid-19 on many long-term plans to stop the yearly issue.
5. Thailand to start to prohibit alcohol selling and promotion online
This law did go into effect, despite widespread opposition from the alcohol and bar sector. It remains in effect this year despite a current nearly eight-month-long nationwide ban on bars due to “Covid-19” measures and most provinces banning even alcohol sales at restaurants. (Including Pattaya.)
