Thailand-
The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.
This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, follow up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication.
This week, we cover the first week of April 2021, from Sunday, March 28th, 2021, to Saturday, April 3rd, 2021.
Let’s go!
1. Big Joke officially returns to the Thai police force
Nope, this wasn’t any sort of April Fools. He remains active to this day, spearheading divisions currently hunting for child predators and pedophiles.
2. Two people were seriously injured during the Pattaya Bikini surf-skate event
We have not seen this event return since, unsurprisingly.
3. Police checkpoints return in Thailand
They vanished again for a period of time during Covid-19 restrictions last year, but have now made firm returns, especially in Pattaya. Checkpoints have become common in the city in the past several months and are likely to increase as Songkran approaches.
4. James Bond island in need of stability assessment
The island had one and work has resumed ensuring the popular tourist attraction remains intact and well.
5. Water drainage system construction in Jomtien finished on time
This project is an example of one that has held up well by Dongtan Beach.
Water drainage system construction in Jomtien finished on schedule say Pattaya city officials
6. Thailand’s very own Jack the Ripper sentenced to death
Here is some more about this infamous character.
That’s it for this week! Stay safe!
