The hottest and most discussed news stories in Pattaya from the last week: Jomtien Beach project sped up, Pattaya Mayor election coming soon, and much more

Hello Pattaya News Readers and Supporters!

The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.

These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in our area and province.

They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Sunday, March 6th, 2022, to Saturday, March 12th, 2022.

Let’s get started and see what the top local stories were!

2.  Jomtien Beach expansion to be sped up and move forward this year

More positive news as the Jomtien Beach expansion will be sped up from 2023 to this year for the middle portion of the beach. The beach expansion has already proved very popular in Na Jomtien, although in some areas perhaps a bit “too” popular with some restaurants now “creatively” using the beach.

3.  Pattaya Mayor elections quickly approaching in late May

This will be the first Mayor election in a DECADE due to the previous coup.  This is a major deal for Pattaya and will see government opposition groups attempt to gain ground against the current administration. Current Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume has yet to officially announce his candidacy, but it is likely to happen soon. The progressive party is due to announce its candidate this week. Even foreigners who cannot vote should keep their eyes on this as the results could significantly change the direction of Pattaya’s development. Or, at the very least, it will mean an alcohol sales ban on a weekend.
