Now, for an update:

The Pattaya City Mayor Sontaya Kunplome inspected the incinerator construction area on Koh Larn this week.

Mr. Sontaya told TPN media, “There are about 12 tons of garbage on Koh Larn per day currently and that number will only increase as international tourists return in higher numbers in the future. Many tourists visit Koh Larn on Friday and the weekend which produces more garbage during these days.”

“While we are waiting for the incinerator, for now, we have to do short-term management to remove garbage by filling garbage into big “pools”. After that we put some chemicals to get rid of odors before closing the garbage pools.” The mayor explained, referring to a large landfill and pits in the middle of the island.

“The planned 25-ton incinerator can destroy 50 tons of garbage per day.” The mayor added.

“We are expecting at the beginning of next year, the incinerator on Koh Larn will be ready to be used to destroy garbage for a long-term solution.” The mayor concluded.

TPN notes the plans for an incinerator have been in place for many, many years.
