Thailand Time Machine: A look back at this same week last year in Thai news: 100-kilogram python captured, Pornhub to stay blocked, Jomtien park moves along, and more!

Thailand-

The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.

This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, following up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.

As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication.

This week, we cover the first week of March 2021, from Sunday, February 28th, 2021 to Saturday, March 6th, 2021.

Let’s go!

1.  Public Health Minister is the first person in Thailand to get a Covid-19 vaccine

One year later, the country is over 71% fully vaccinated, with about 30% boosted. Health officials, however, are concerned about a reported 2 million elderly and vulnerable who have yet to be fully vaccinated, a big reason Thailand still has some restrictions and mandates.

2.  THREE major sports complexes in the Pattaya area?

Well, we will see. There has been no progress in the past year but Chonburi officials say this is due to Covid-19 restrictions for much of last year.

3.  Protests continue in Bangkok in the pro-democracy movement

A year later, this has been mostly silenced after the majority of leaders were arrested or faced stiff prison sentences, along with Covid restrictions stopping large gatherings.

5.  New public park in Jomtien about 70 percent completed

Originally scheduled for completion in August of 2021, it was delayed a few months due to Covid-19 restrictions all summer last year, however, is now fully open and is another project city leaders fully completed.

6.  Adult entertainment Pornhub to remain blocked in Thailand

It is still blocked a year later. Of course, with a VPN, there are ways around it, but it is officially blocked.

That is it for this week! Thank you for your support, see you next week!
