The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area, Pattaya and Chonburi, from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.

These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in our area and province.

They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Sunday, January 30th, 2022, to Saturday, February 5th, 2022.

1.   Walking Street Pattaya business owners discuss Covid-19 measures as Cobra Gold begins

Some of our readers noticed helicopters in the past few days, although it is not yet clear if soldiers will be given liberty or leave to explore Pattaya, despite many business owners hoping they will.

2.  Tourism Authority of Thailand and entertainment business operators hold a meeting to discuss legally reopening bars and nightlife

Technically, bars are STILL closed and have been since April 10th, 2021.  The current plan has allowed them to open as “restaurants” with many rules and conditions and early closing times. Nightlife operators are pushing relevant agencies to legally allow their sector to reopen.

3. Prominent Pattaya business operators to visit Saudi Arabia for a tourism roadshow.

Could Pattaya become a “HUB” for Islamic tourism?  We will see, but some top government advisors say yes.

4.  Bangkok and Pattaya elections proposed to be held in May

This will be if it happens, the first election for Pattaya Mayor in almost a decade and a very significant event.
