Thailand-
The following is a weekly feature article looking at this same time period LAST year in Pattaya and Thailand news.
This weekly feature takes a look back at news from the same period last year (and sometimes different time windows, such as six months or three months) to see how things have changed, follow up on the progression of stories, as well as look at potentially broken promises or things that didn’t take place as promised in Pattaya and Thailand.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this is a quick way for people to take a look at what the biggest stories were a year ago, as chosen by our editorial team, and how they impact us today and relate to current news. They are in no particular order of importance, however, are roughly in order of publication.
This week, we cover the fourth week of April 2021, from Sunday, April 18th, 2021, to Saturday, April 24th, 2021.
Let’s go!
1. Today officially starts new Covid-19 restrictions in Chonburi and Thailand
Last year saw the third wave of Covid-19 begin in Thailand with new restrictions and rules, which would last about eight months. This year, finally, recovery is being seen and Test and Go is being lifted in May.

2. Pattaya Wan Lai canceled for the second year in a row
This year, although many traditional Songkran events were allowed, the “big party” was suspended until likely 2023 as officials were still nervous about allowing massive events like this to take place. We know at least some of our readers were pleased by the news who don’t enjoy the crowds and water splashing.
3. Massage shop owners protest closures, demand reopening to the governor
They would be eased much sooner than entertainment venues, which are still technically closed and operating as restaurants, but still had several months of closures last year.
4. Thai police ordered to focus on house parties and illegal social gatherings
Suffice to say, last year was not a fun time for many people.
5. Alcohol sales crackdown takes place at restaurants around Pattaya
The alcohol ban would stay until December until constant protests and demands from business owners and tourist groups lifted the unpopular ban.

6. Pattaya police break up groups of drinkers on Jomtien Beaches
Eventually, beaches would be closed again for months last year.

That is it for this week, a look back at dark times for Pattaya. Let’s hope the rest of this year remains much better!
