Reader talkback results: Do you think the Thai government should make additional restrictions for Songkran?

The following is our exclusive weekly feature in which we ask our readers a news topical question and then give you a week to answer it on our various channels, compiling a diverse range of answers and opinions to present.

Last week, we asked you the following:

Reader Talkback: Do you think the Thai government should make additional restrictions for Songkran next week to control Covid-19?

Of course, since we asked this question the Thai government responded by closing entertainment venues in 41 provinces, including Chonburi, for at least two weeks and many provinces have enacted additional restrictions stemming from travel restrictions to closing other venues like cinemas.

Here is what you, our readers, had to say as our editors selected some of the most diverse responses to highlight different points of view.  Do you still want to chime in? Here is how:

Here is what you had to say this week, a new reader talkback will be up soon:

Jerry L-One thing that should be done is a start time and a finish time. Currently, they have 24 hours a day to throw water, it should be restricted and enforced, finish at 6:00 P.M.

Derek D-I am but a guest in this country and will do as the authorities require me to do

Franco B-Vaccine is the solution

Stephen D-Vaccinate the population. Stop punishing them

Kyle H-This garbage has gone on too long. If the government was providing financial aid, which they aren’t, ok sure, lock it down. But since they aren’t, let’s protect the elderly and vulnerable with vaccines and medical care and let the rest get back to life.

Markus Z-NO!

Leanna L-They should close the bars, at least for Songkran. (Editor’s note-We had a winner, predicted what would happen.)

Mikael N-Lock everything down like we did last year. I’m tired of hearing people whine about the government doesn’t have money to do it, sure they do, they just don’t like to use it. Lock it down, secure the vaccines, and let’s move on.

Tim R-Songkran should be banned EVERY year like the past two, would save plenty of road lives and it is better traditional. Hopefully, we never see the wild parties of the past again.

Lance-As much as it sucks, travel should be restricted or banned. Yes, I know many people go home for Songkran but they can do that next year. And yeah, I know people said this last year but nobody expected this to last this long.
