Father jumps to death from three-story building in Bangkok following his bedridden daughter’s death due to Covid-19

Bangkok –

An 84-year-old father reportedly jumped to death from a three-story building in the Ratchathewi area of Bangkok yesterday morning, July 2nd, after his bedridden daughter, 57, died due to a Covid-19 infection.

Police from the Phayathai Police Station were alerted of the fatal incident at around 5:00 AM. The body of the elder man, who is ethnically Chinese, was spotted lying in front of the building located on Banthat Thong Road by a pedestrian.

Inside the commercial building, a female body who was believed to be his daughter was found. She was said to be a bedridden patient and was infected with the Covid-19 Coronavirus. Officials then closed the area before deploying a specialized operation team for investigation.

The initial investigation exposed that the 84-year-old man had committed suicide out of grief from the loss of his daughter who had just passed away due to the Covid-19 virus infection.

The relatives were invited for further discussion at a local police station. The body of the father would be transferred to Ramathibodi Hospital for autopsy while the daughter’s body was taken for a funeral at a local temple.

The female victim was reportedly waiting for a hospital bed, bringing more attention to the overall situation in Bangkok around the medical situation due to Covid-19.

Thailand hit a new record in cases today, most in the Bangkok area.
