Pattaya mayor says Covid–19 situation still under control in Pattaya City

The Covid – 19 situation is still under control and traditional Songkran activities can still be held, said the Pattaya City mayor this afternoon while speaking to local news media.

The Pattaya City Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume told The Pattaya News, “Chonburi is now still in the yellow zone (referring to provincial designations set by the Thai government based on Covid-19 risk) and we have been told we will stay here for now. There are no travel restrictions, quarantines, or blocks against coming or leaving Chonburi at this time.”

“Tourism places and entertainment venues are still opened as of Thursday, April 8th, however, we have to follow the CCSA (Center for Covid-19 situation Administration) and disease control committee orders to see if there are any changes.” The mayor continued, noting that the CCSA had approved an order for 41 provinces to close entertainment venues and that the Prime Minister was likely to sign off on this tomorrow morning, April 9th, 2021.

“Traditional Songkran activities which are ‘Wan Lai Naklua’ ‘Wan Lai Pattaya’ and the ‘Gong Khao’ festival from April 18^th to April 20^th are still going to be held at this time. These will be under the strictest of Covid-19 measurements and involve primarily religious merit-making activities. Social distancing, mask-wearing, temperature checks, hand sanitizer usage, checking in using Thai applications, and other measures will take place.” The mayor noted.

“No water fights, concerts, non-religious parades or festivals, or foam parties will be held following previously approved CCSA measurements.” the Mayor noted.

“Additionally, we have still seen no major cancellations for room bookings in Pattaya from April 10^th to April 15^th. Even if entertainment venues are closed by government order, we have a variety of beautiful beaches, islands, restaurants, resorts, and other tourist attractions where one can safely socially distance and enjoy the holiday with your friends and family. The kite festival will also still be taking place.” The mayor added.

“We will also receive more vaccines against Covid-19 on April 23rd. We plan on all Pattaya residents to receive a Covid-19 vaccine by the end of this year (if they choose to take it) as we have expected.” The mayor concluded.
