Thailand discovered 44 domestic infections out of 54 new Covid-19 Coronavirus cases with one additional death in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported this morning, March 4th.
The 85th Covid-19 death was a 63-year-old Thai man from Bangkok with underlying health conditions of diabetes and high blood pressure. His travel records showed a history of traveling in a high-risk area.
He sought a Covid-19 test at a local hospital on January 9th after having suspicious symptoms, including coughing, a sore throat, and being short of breath. He had been treated at a hospital with a ventilator, however, his condition became worse. He was pronounced dead on February 28th.
Regarding the domestic locally spread infections, the majority of 36 cases were walk-in/hospital cases, including contact tracing, that were reported in Samut Sakhon with 28, Tak with 3, Bangkok 2, Nakhon Nayok with 1, Pathum Thani with 1, and Chonburi with 1. Most of them are Thai and Myanmar nationals. All of the patients are now isolated at local and field hospitals for treatment.
The infection found in Chonburi was a Swiss national. The patient is asymptomatic, according to the reports, and now being isolated and treated at a private hospital in the city. Two close contacts of the patient are being tested and quarantined.
The other eight cases were reported during proactive case finding in local communities, particularly in local markets, factories, and migrant worker’s dormitories, in Samut Sakhon.
As of today, 79 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 26,162 cases with 25,562 recoveries and a total of 85 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
