Two Indian tourists were spotted attacking their fellow countrymen on a busy Pattaya street on the morning of June 29th, 2024.
The incident, captured by a passerby, depicted the two men viciously punching and beating another Indian man in the middle of the road, oblivious to the onlookers, including local residents and tourists. The video also showed a Thai woman, presumed to be the girlfriend of one of the assailants, rushing in to stop the fight.
After the alleged assault went viral, local reporters went to the incident scene at the entrance of Soi 16 in South Pattaya, which is typically frequented by a lot of tourists day and night and home to numerous Indian and Arabian restaurants. They then learned from nearby residents that the incident took place around 6 AM on June 29th.
According to a local resident, who was waiting for taxi passengers across the street and saw the assault, the Indian men initially verbally argued with each other before they started fighting. The eyewitness mentioned that disputes among drunk tourists, particularly Indians, are common in this area. Fortunately, Pattaya police quickly arrived at the scene and intervened before anyone got seriously injured. All involved parties were then taken to a police station.
The Pattaya News notes that this incident follows a recent case where two Vietnamese men brutally attacked their business partner, leaving him severely injured. This incident also occurred in Pattaya’s tourist area, raising concerns about the city’s safety and its impact on tourism.
Pattaya Police did not immediately release statements on any legal charges incurred by the tourists involved.
