25 Illegal Immigrants from Myanmar Arrested in Pattaya

Pattaya —

Chonburi immigration officers raided an apartment building in Pattaya today, June 18th, and apprehended over 25 illegal immigrants from Myanmar.

The operation was conducted following a tip-off from concerned residents about a large group of illegal migrant workers residing in the building and causing trouble. The unnamed apartment is located on Soi Kho Phai 4/5 in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Upon inspection, immigration officers found over 57 foreign workers living in the building. Of these, two were found to be Indian nationals and 32 were found to have valid documents. However, officers discovered that 25 people from Myanmar were unable to produce any legal documentation for their stay in Thailand. They were then arrested.

The 25 illegal Burmese immigrants were charged with illegally entering the country. They are being detained pending further legal proceedings and exportation.

Meanwhile, the Thai building’s owner, Mr. Wichit Meesetthi, 80, was also arrested for failing to report the presence of foreign tenants to the authorities within 24 hours, as required by Thai law.
