On June 14th, 2024, Deputy Government Spokesman Karom Phonphonklang warned the public to exercise caution due to the weather conditions from June 15th to the 19th.
Karom publicly stated that the monsoon trough passing over the upper northern and northeastern regions into a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, will cause increased rainfall and heavy rains in some areas, especially in the eastern region.
In the southern region, the upper Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will experience moderate winds and waves, with the upper Andaman Sea having waves about 2 meters high, and the lower Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand having waves 1-2 meters high. Areas with thunderstorms could see waves exceeding 2 meters.
From June 15th to the 19th, citizens across Thailand should be aware of the dangers posed by heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation, which may cause potential flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas near waterways and low-lying areas in the north and east.
Extra caution is advised when traveling through storm-affected areas. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should navigate with caution and avoid sailing during thunderstorms, emphasized Karom.
