A 57-year-old Thai man was killed and his son was injured after their motorcycle collided with a minibus on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya early this morning. The son was taking his dad to a hospital for a medical appointment.
The accident occurred at 5:36 AM on June 10th on Sukhumvit Road heading towards Pattaya in Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Banglamung police were notified of the accident and responded to the scene along with rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation.
At the scene, police found a Honda Scoopy motorcycle lying overturned on the road. The motorcycle was badly damaged.
Next to the motorcycle, police found the body of Mr. Santi Srithongchai, 57. He was unconscious and had sustained serious injuries. Rescue workers provided first aid and attempted CPR, but Mr. Santi tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Santi’s son, Mr. Anan Srithongchai, 34, was also found at the scene. He had sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by rescue workers.
According to eyewitness Mr. Phitak Chamsaowarot, 20, he saw a minibus parked on the side of the road, partially obstructing the lane, before the accident. He said that he heard a loud bang but did not see what happened. When he came out to investigate, he found the injured victims lying on the road. The minibus and its driver, however, reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
After reviewing CCTV footage, Banglamung police revealed that the minibus was partially obstructing the left lane with the hazard lights on. The driver of the minibus was seen sitting on the footpath when the motorcycle crashed into the back of the bus, shocking the driver. The driver then quickly drove off.
Banglamung police are searching for the minibus driver for an interrogation as of press time. The surviving son of the deceased, Mr. Anan, later told The Pattaya News reporters that he was taking his dad to a hospital for a doctor appointment.
