Pattaya Floods Cause Partial Road Collapse on Third Road

Pattaya —

Heavy rain caused flooding in several areas of Pattaya on the afternoon of May 21st, 2024. The rain also caused a partial road collapse on Third Road near Hollywood Disco and New Season 88 in North Pattaya.

A video of the collapse and flooding can be seen HERE on our YouTube Channel.

The downpour, which lasted off and on throughout the day, resulted in water levels rising to between 10 and 70 centimeters in several locations.

Affected areas included the railway road between Soi Wat Thammasammakhi and Soi Khao Talo, Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya, Phaniat Chang Intersection, and Mum Aroi Intersection. These areas are typically prone to flooding.

The floodwaters made it impassable for motorcycles and small cars, but the water receded quickly and returned to normal levels seemingly thanks to the city’s new drainage system. However, after the floodwaters receded, residents near Hollywood Disco and New Season 88 in North Pattaya noticed that the Third Road’s surface had been damaged. It was believed that the water pressure and erosion caused the road surface to sink by about 10 centimeters over a 5-meter section.

There were no injuries or vehicles damaged thanks to quick responses by local residents and relevant authorities.

Luckily, there were no injuries. Nearby residents alerted Pattaya City officials to repair the damage.

Pattaya City’s engineering team and other relevant agencies inspected the road and closed it to traffic. They are currently working to repair the damaged surface using backhoes to level the ground under the road surface and resurfacing the road. It is expected that the road will be reopened to traffic soon.
