Pattaya Police Launch Crackdown on Migrant Beggars, Arrest Multiple Suspects

Pattaya —

Pattaya police conducted a raid on May 9th, 2024, to crack down on illegal migrant beggars who had been accused of stealing Thai people’s jobs and annoying tourists.

The crackdown was in response to complaints from locals and tourists about illegal immigrants working in the city as we reported yesterday.

The raid was led by Pol. Lt. Sirichat Nuthet, Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, along with officers from the Tourist Police, Immigration Bureau, and local authorities. The operation focused on areas along Pattaya Beach, Walking Street, and other popular tourist spots.

During the raid, officers encountered a group of eight foreign beggars with young children, ranging from one to three years old. These individuals were arrested and taken into custody. Additionally, two foreigners selling flowers and one selling peanuts were also detained. Their nationalities were not disclosed to the media.

However, Pattaya police told The Pattaya News that there was no evidence of illegal vendors stealing Thai people’s jobs. Nevertheless, the officers acknowledged the concerns and pledged to continue their investigation into the claim. They also did not comment on whether these immigrants might be involved in human trafficking or if the children found with them really belonged to them.
