Pattaya Residents Complain About Illegal Migrant Workers Stealing Jobs and Begging in the City

Pattaya —

Pattaya residents are once again calling for relevant authorities to take action against illegal migrant workers who they said are stealing Thai people’s jobs and annoying tourists.

The complainants shared with The Pattaya News that they have noticed many foreign women, especially those from Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, peddling to tourists and trying to sell them flowers.

The women typically operate at crowded tourist attractions such as Walking Street. They are also often seen with young children, ranging from infants to toddlers, to evoke sympathy from tourists, the complainants said.

If the tourists deny their offers, these women will get angry and show inappropriate demeanor, the critics noted.

The locals also complained about illegal foreign vendors operating mobile carts and tricycle stalls, selling goods to tourists. They said it was unfair for Thai vendors who obey the laws and pay taxes.

The concerned residents are appealing for relevant authorities to take immediate action to address this issue. They also believed that these migrant workers might be involved in human trafficking and concerned that the children with them may not be their own.
