National—

On May 7th, 2024, the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports publicly revealed statistics of incoming foreign tourists from January 1st to May 5th, 2024, totaling 12,588,825 visitors, generating tourism income of 605 billion baht.

The top five nationalities were Chinese tourists with 2,461,620 visitors, Malaysian tourists with 1,634,388, Russian tourists with 784,550, Korean tourists with 704,427, and Indian tourists with 677,783, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

However, during the past week from April 29th to May 5th, Thailand had a total of 639,822 incoming foreign tourists. The number decreased by 12,419 or 1.9% compared to the previous week. It was reported that the number of daily average foreign visitors was 91,403.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports anticipated that the number of foreign tourists would decrease further as Thailand entered the low season. However, the Thai government promoted Thailand tourism such as visa exemption policies to various countries including China, extending visa exemption rights for travel not exceeding 60 days to Russia.

Recently, the Thai cabinet approved the extension of the 30-day visa-free entry for Indian and Taiwanese visitors until November 11th, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the visa exemption and visa extension would potentially build confidence in foreign tourists, facilitate traveling measures, and increase the number of airlines operating to Thailand.
