On May 4th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department forecasted weather conditions for the next 24 hours.
In the next 24 hours, low atmospheric pressure due to the heat would cover the upper part of Thailand. This condition would cause Thailand to experience generally hot to very hot weather with clear skies during midday.
Citizens were advised to take care of their health by avoiding prolonged outdoor activities and drinking sufficient water.
The westerly wind wave from Myanmar passing over the northern upper region and northeastern upper region, coupled with the southeasterly wind and south wind covering the upper part of Thailand, would lead to summer storms in these areas. These storms may feature thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms.
Citizens should be aware of the dangers of thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms, as well as the dangers of lightning strikes that may occur. Furthermore, during the storms, it was advised to avoid staying outdoors, under large trees, weak structures, and non-durable advertising billboards. Farmers should prepare and take precautions to prevent damage to crops.
As for the northeasterly wind covering the Andaman Sea, with the southeasterly wind covering the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region, the southern region may still experience some thunderstorms. Fishermen should avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.
As for air quality, the northern, northeastern, and central regions, including the Bangkok metropolitan area, would accumulate small dust particles, PM 2.5, at moderate to high levels. This was due to the weak wind coverage and poor air ventilation in these areas.
Previously, on May 3rd, Thai national media reported summer storms striking multiple provinces in north and northeast Thailand.
In Uttaradit, the strong wind and heavy rain caused many districts damaged as advertisement billboards, electricity poles, trees, and other weak structures collapsed. Moreover, the electricity went temporarily out throughout the city.
The summer storm in Uttaradit caused Uttaradit Hospital significant damage and patients were immediately evacuated to unaffected floors.
In Nong Bua Lamphu, more than 750 households in four districts were reported to be affected by hailstorms. Relevant agencies took immediate action to aid the victims accordingly.
