UPDATE: Alleged Gunman Who Killed One and Injured Three During Sattahip Songkran Surrenders

Sattahip, Chonburi —

A Thai man who allegedly shot and killed one person and injured three others, including a 13-year-old girl, during a Songkran celebration in Sattahip, Chonburi, surrendered himself to police last evening, April 17th, 2024.

Four young Thai people were shot during a Songkran celebration in Sattahip, Chonburi, on the evening of April 16th, 2024. One person later died due to serious injuries. Police are still hunting for the gunman as of press time.

Now for our update:

Yesterday, the Pattaya Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Jakree Chimkhiri, also known as “Jak”, 38, on charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of firearms and ammunition without a license, carrying a firearm in public without a license, and discharging a firearm in public.

Mr. Jakree was believed to have been responsible for firing a gun during a Songkran celebration in Sattahip, which injured four young people. One victim, Mr. Nopparat Saithong, 23, eventually died from his wounds at the hospital.

On the evening of yesterday, a combined team of police officers from the Chonburi Provincial Police, the Sattahip Police Station, and the Chonburi Provincial Investigation Unit apprehended Mr. Jakree in the Khao Chamao district, Rayong province. The suspect had fled Sattahip and was hiding in the area.

Upon arrest, Mr. Jakree was taken to the Khao Chamao Hospital for treatment for a stab wound to the abdomen, which he had sustained during an altercation that preceded the shooting. Following this, he was transferred to the Sattahip Police Station for interrogation.

Police believed that Mr. Jakree may have disposed of the firearm used in the shooting. They are currently searching for the weapon’s whereabouts.

According to police, Mr. Jakree contacted them and expressed his desire to surrender, fearing that he might be killed in a confrontation with law enforcement. This information led to his apprehension.
