Sattahip, Chonburi —
Four young Thai people were shot during a Songkran celebration in Sattahip, Chonburi, on the evening of April 16th, 2024. One person later died due to serious injuries. Police are still hunting for the gunman as of press time.
At 6:00 PM on Tuesday, Sattahip police were called to respond to a shooting incident at a Songkran celebration on Soi Bon Kai in the Sattahip district of Chonburi province. Four young people (three males and one female) were found injured from gunfire. The youngest victim was a 13-year-old girl.
All victims suffered gunshot wounds to their torsos, with two sustaining critical injuries. All four were rushed to the Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital for treatment. Sadly, one victim, later identified as Mr. Nopparat Saithong, 23, died from his wounds. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at the time of reporting.
According to Pol. Col. Thanaphon Klinkesorn, Superintendent of the Sattahip Police Station, the suspect has been identified as Mr. Jakree Chimkhiri, 38, also known as “Jak Kaobaisri.” Sattahip police believed that he was responsible for the shooting.
After the incident, Pol. Col. Thanaphon led a team of over 10 heavily armed officers to surround the suspect’s residence and potential hideouts frequented by his associates within the Phlu Ta Luang and Sattahip areas. Pol. Col. Thanaphon revealed officers are exercising caution as the suspect is likely proficient in handling firearms.
As of now, the suspect remains at large. Authorities are contacting the suspect’s relatives to urge them to convince the suspect to surrender himself.
