Chonburi Merchant Loses One-Million-Baht in Life Savings in House Fire

Chonburi —

A female merchant in Chonburi lost her life savings worth over one million baht after it was incinerated along with her rented house in a fire that occurred early Monday morning, April 8th, 2024.

The incident took place at a townhouse complex in Laem Chabang, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Firefighters were informed of the fire about 03:34 AM and rushed to the scene to find a two-story townhouse engulfed in flames.

The intense fire quickly spread to two adjacent houses. Firefighters used high-pressure water to extinguish the blaze. It took them over two hours to bring the fire under control.

According to local media reports, the fire originated from a two-story townhouse, which was rented by Ms. Jirawan Promchart, 28. Ms. Jirawan said that she was cooking rice to sell at the market when she heard a loud noise and saw flames coming from the stove. She believed that a gas leak caused the fire.

The fire quickly spread to the two adjacent townhouses, completely destroying all three properties. Ms. Jirawan expressed her sorrow over the loss of her home and those of her neighbours as well as the loss of her life savings of over 1 million baht, which she had kept inside her house and was also destroyed in the fire.

Luckily, however, there were no injuries to people stemming from the blaze.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
