Authorities Warn Entertainment Venues in Pattaya Against Loud Noise, Prioritizing Tourist Safety

Pattaya —

Pattaya and Banglamung district officials met with entertainment venue operators on February 23rd, 2024, to outline six key measures and potential consequences for non-compliance.

Chaired by Mr. Weekit Manarojkit, the Banglamung District Chief, the meeting brought together representatives from various stakeholders, including venue operators, police stations, tourist police, and Pattaya council members.

The focus was to foster a collective understanding of safety measures for tourists and creating a positive image for Pattaya, the renowned tourist destination within the Banglamung district.

The meeting emphasized six key measures for operators to adhere to, including closing venues at designated times, curbing loud music within legal limits, employing legal workers with proper records, enforcing strict regulations against drugs, weapons, and violence, prohibiting entry for individuals under 20, and avoiding human trafficking.

Furthermore, Pattaya City issued two crucial announcements. The first outlined criteria for businesses posing health risks due to noise pollution, such as establishments featuring live music, dancing, shows, discos, and karaokes. The second specified entertainment licensing requirements for food businesses exceeding 200 square meters, such as mookatas (Thai BBQs) that often operate in a grey area with loud music and live acts but are not technically an entertainment venue.

Mr. Wuttisak Rueimkitkan, the Pattaya Deputy Mayor, pointed out the public complaints regarding nightclubs playing loud music at night. He stressed that operating permits wouldn’t be issued to these venues unless they have proper soundproofing first. He also cautioned that operating without such measures could lead to license revocation.
