A pickup truck driver narrowly escaped serious injury on Monday after reportedly falling asleep and veering off the road, plunging into a water-filled pit more than 10 meters deep.
The incident occurred on February 19th, 2024, along a road near Mueang Chonburi district. Police and the local rescue team responded to the scene and found a white Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck submerged in the pit.
Fortunately, the driver, identified as 51-year-old Mr. Thaweesap Kulbutr, had been assisted out by bystanders before authorities’ arrival. He was uninjured and did not provide a statement to the press.
According to an eyewitness, Mr. Phiphat, 17, the truck swerved off the road and struck his motorbike, sending it into the water. He narrowly escaped injury as the collision was not direct.
A bystander, Mr. Somkuan Thasorn, 45, stated that he saw the accident and immediately jumped into the water to rescue Mr. Thaweesap. He used a piece of iron and swam to the vehicle to break the truck’s window and pulled Mr. Thaweesap to safety.
Police are investigating the incident and believe drowsiness may have been the cause of the accident. They are interviewing witnesses and gathering further details.
