First our previous story:

A Thai man threatened a foreign tourist in Na Jomtien with a knife after the latter refused to buy beer from him for 200 baht.

Now for our update:

On January 20th, Pattaya police apprehended Mr. Bunsuk Kwan-on, a 52-year-old resident of Chiang Mai, after he was suspected of attempting to assault a foreign tourist on a footpath at the mouth of Soi Na Jomtien 20, Na Jomtien sub-district, Sattahip district, Chonburi province, on Friday night, January 19th.

The arrest followed a swift investigation conducted by the Pattaya police in response to the reported incident.

Mr. Bunsuk was arrested along with a shirt and a kitchen knife, which he was seen using to threaten an unidentified foreign man.

According to local reports, the incident began when the foreigner approached a Thai woman and her friends, who were drinking beer near a sidewalk in Soi Na Jomtien 20. The foreigner then asked the group where he could buy some beer.

However, Mr. Bunsuk arrived on a motorbike and abruptly chased the man away, brandishing a knife. This action was reportedly in response to the tourist’s refusal to purchase beer from him for 200 baht.

While initially admitting to being the individual in the CCTV footage, Mr. Bunsuk claimed that he was allegedly attempting to protect the woman from harassment by the foreigner. He also alleged that the circumstances surrounding the sale of beer were merely a misunderstanding.

Despite this, Pattaya police were skeptical about his claims because Mr. Bunsuk reportedly appeared nonchalant about his actions and provided inconsistent statements. Additionally, a woman involved in the incident later arrived to identify him as the perpetrator and said his statements were untrue.

Mr. Bunsuk was charged with physical assault and carrying a knife in public. He is currently in police custody.
