UPDATE: Suspected Murderer of Chonburi Woman Arrested

Chonburi —

A Thai man was arrested in connection to the death of a woman found deceased in the cassava field in the area of Huay Yai, Chonburi province.

First our previous story:

Huay Yai police are expediting their investigation into the deaths of a young woman found in a cassava field and a young man who was discovered hanging nearby in a baffling incident.

Now for our update:

On December 6th at around 8:50 PM, the suspect, Mr. Pratchayathas Samutthongdaeng, 32, turned himself in to Huay Yai police. His surrender came after his relatives persuaded him to come forward in the case where a young woman, whose name was identified by police as Ms. Chanjira Khamkaew, 27, was found dead in a cassava plantation in Huay Yai.

A video version of this story can be found here on our YouTube channel.

Mr. Pratchayathas reportedly confessed to murdering Ms. Chanjira, stating that around 11:00 PM on November 29th, he had a verbal altercation with Ms. Chanjira at their residence in Suphanburi. He admitted to strangling her to death out of anger and later disposed of her body in the cassava field.

He drove a bronze Honda Civic to transport the body and dumped it at the crime scene. The man is currently in custody.

It’s unclear if the body of a man found hanging a distance away from the victim was connected and was still under investigation, but may have been an isolated incident.
