National—

On November 15th, 2023, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, and the Thai metropolitan police, publicly revealed a meeting to solve ongoing students’ quarrels between rival colleges.

The metropolitan police in each assigned area have set precautionary measures for any possible future incidents with patrol units deployed in locations that are considered at risk.

During the meeting, Minburi police and relevant officials discussed guidelines for action to change wrong values into correct values with a common goal of cooperation between college institutions to prevent future conflicts. This included involving faculty staff at colleges to build a culture of teamwork and to stress that other colleges were not ‘the enemy” but that everyone was a student and a human being.

The Thai metropolitan police asserted that there would be continuous monitoring and coping with quarrels between institutes with relevant information in practice to execute response plans.
“If the police officers do not perform their duty, they will face consequences accordingly,” said Pol. Gen. Kittirat.

Pol. Gen. Kittirat emphasized that a recent shooting incident in Khlong Toei, Bangkok was not a quarrel between rival students from different college institutes but a crime in which an innocent life was taken who was a beloved teacher who was at an ATM nearby, and in which another student suffered a serious injury.
