Pattaya —

Last night the Pattaya Police Station almost became a scene of violence as ride-share drivers and orange-vested Win drivers confronted each other outside the station and brandished weapons.

The tense situation, however, was peacefully resolved due to the quick response from Pattaya police officers inside the station.

According to reports, the incident took place at 8:30 PM on October 31st, right at the front of the Pattaya Police Station in Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Eyewitnesses told The Pattaya News that a male driver, who reportedly worked for the Bolt application, approached a conventional motorbike taxi rider, typically referred to as Win, while holding a beer bottle with an apparent intention to harm him. The Win driver, at the same time, drew a knife in preparation for the impending attack.

However, police officers in the Pattaya station noticed the situation and promptly decided to intervene to prevent a potential fight, subsequently arresting both parties.

The police did not officially disclose the motive behind the incident or what charges the men would face, but eyewitnesses stated that the two parties confronted each other possibly due to a passenger dispute.

There were about 4-5 Bolt drivers present, and one of them began advancing toward the Win driver, prompting eyewitnesses to notify the authorities.

In September of this year, a group of Win drivers in Pattaya allegedly ganged up to obstruct a ride-sharing driver from transporting a female passenger.

The incident was captured by a bystander and later went viral on social media, raising questions about the behavior of Thailand’s conventional motorbike taxi drivers.
