Bangkok Stadium Roof Collapses from Rain Just Before Major Sports Event

Bangkok –

A roof at an indoor stadium in Huamark collapsed just before a major world sports competition event.

The incident was reported at about 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday (October 3rd). The roof of the Indoor Stadium Huamark of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) collapsed during heavy rainfall.

The collapse was just before the opening event of the IWBF Women’s U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 2023 which is being hosted by Thailand. Athletes from ten countries were evacuated from the stadium. Two people were reported to have suffered minor injuries and the event was indefinitely postponed.

An investigation would reportedly take place into the collapse.
