Pattaya Police Raid Major Nightclub for Drugs and Overstayers, But Find Nothing Wrong

Pattaya, Thailand-

Pattaya police raided a major nightclub catering mostly to Thai nationals on Third Road around 1:00 A.M. this morning, August 12th, 2023, but despite disrupting an evening of partying and fun for over a hundred people found nothing wrong.

The raid was conducted at Ying Club, which has been inspected multiple times before recently (also without finding anything wrong).

The raid was led by Pol. Col. Thanapong Phothi, the Chief of the Pattaya City Police Station and included about fifty officers from the Pattaya police, tourist police, and Immigration.

According to Col. Thanapong the raid was aimed to find foreigners possibly on overstay primarily, but also to find illegal drugs, firearms, or other offenses.

Despite requiring all staff and patrons to take a drug test, inspecting personal vehicles, and reviewing the passports and ID’s of all present, no offenses were found according to Col. Thanapong. Even the cat mascot, seen in the photos, was tested but also had done nothing wrong.

Nightclub raids have continually been criticized by patrons on social media for disrupting one’s evening but Pattaya Police have continually said they are necessary to keep people safe and claim most tourists appreciate the raids because it shows them that police care about their safety.

Col. Thanapong stated that inspections of nightlife venues would continue on a regular basis, once again citing that they keep people safe.
