Purse Snatching Incident Leaves 50-Year-Old Pattaya Woman with Severe Injuries

Pattaya —

A 50-year-old Thai woman was nearly robbed by a purse snatcher while riding a motorbike to work in the Huay Yai sub-district, in East Pattaya. Although the robber got away with nothing, he caused serious injuries to the woman.

The Pattaya News interviewed the victim’s husband Mr. Sunthorn Techo, 53, about the distressing snatching incident that left his wife, Ms. Somporn Kanyasai, 50, with several severe injuries, including a fractured right side of her skull, a broken shin, a fractured right ankle, and a fractured right hip.

According to Sunthorn, the incident happened on July 15th as his wife was commuting to her workplace on a motorbike on 331 Road. While Somporn was reaching the Baan Kho Khao area, she encountered a thin-built, tall man riding a red motorcycle.

The man was believed to be the same person who brutally attacked a Pattaya caddie while she was on her way to work on this same route last month, according to a police report.

The culprit rode up alongside Somporn and reached his hand out to snatch the shoulder bag from her. However, Somporn resisted and managed to briefly fend him off only to be pushed off the road into a roadside utility pole. Due to the impact, the woman fell from her bike into a grassy roadside, where the suspect parked his vehicle, approached her on foot, and used his feet to trample on her face.

Sunthorn said his wife called him for help after the incident. The suspect was nowhere to be found as he quickly fled the scene after seeing that more traffic was approaching. Sunthorn filed a complaint at the Huay Yai police station.

The medical team informed Sunthorn that it may take a considerable amount of time for his wife to heal and walk normally again. Meanwhile, Huay Yai police are still searching for the suspect.
