Rain Floods Pattaya After Thailand Officially Enters Wet Season

Pattaya —

Last night’s downpour flooded several spots in Pattaya after Thailand officially shifted to the rainy season on May 22nd.

The Pattaya News team reported that last night’s (May 23rd, 2023) rain which lasted approximately one hour and was accompanied by strong winds had left the usual flood-prone areas such as Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya, Pattaya Beach Road, Third Road near the Paniat Chang intersection, Moom Aroi intersection, and the road along the railway inundated.

The heavy rainfall was witnessed at around 9:30 PM. The flood level in certain areas reached over 30 cm to 1 meter in height, the Pattaya News team reported. However, both the storm and the flooding were gone quickly thanks to the new larger drains that seemed to work to get rid of the water much faster than prior years.

The downpour came after Thailand officially entered the rainy season on Monday, May 22nd. The country’s wet season will expect to end in mid-October. However, in the southern part of Thailand, especially in the southeast coastal areas, the rain will continue until mid-January of next year, 2024, according to the Meteorological Department.
