Pattaya —

Police swooped in on a homeless man in Pattaya after he reportedly attacked his homeless friend with a tree limb, putting him in a local hospital.

The attack occurred on the morning of May 5th. An unidentified Pattaya resident reported to police that a man, who looked like a homeless person, beat another homeless person aged around 50 years old to a pulp in front of an abandoned property in Soi Thep Prasit 17, in the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district, and fled.

The beaten and still unidentified homeless man suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital by Sawang Boriboon rescuers. A local who witnessed the incident told The Pattaya News that he saw the victim and his attacker arguing prior to the attack.

The man used a large tree limb to bash the victim multiple times before running away. The local also noted that the two men were actually prior friends, and he saw them together for a couple of days before the beating.

On May 11th at 8 PM, Pattaya Police revealed to The Pattaya News that they had arrested the suspect, Mr. Chaowalit Moonwicha, 42, of Thai nationality. He was arrested at an abandoned bar on Thappraya Road about 1.9 km from the incident scene. Originally, the suspect was reported to be a teenager but Chaowalit is much older.

Mr. Chaowalit reportedly admitted to attacking his homeless friend, claiming the victim physically forced him to repair his bicycle. He was reportedly hit in the head and verbally assaulted first. This forced him to fight back in self-defense, according to his claims.

The victim remains unconscious at a hospital. The suspect is in police custody.
