A Look At The Week Ahead in Pattaya and Thailand News: 6,000 US Soldiers Coming to Pattaya Area, Music Festival, and more…

The following is our regular feature in which we highlight the biggest stories and developments over the next week in Pattaya and Thailand.

This week we cover from February 26th, 2023 to March 4th, 2023.

Two major events take place next week that both tourists and ex-pats should be aware of in Pattaya and the surrounding area.

First, officially kicking off from February 28th until almost the middle of March is Cobra Gold which will see almost 6,000 US soldiers in eastern Thailand and in and around Pattaya. This is a joint military exercise between Thailand and the US military that has taken place for many years and also involves many other allied countries. This will be the first full Cobra Gold since before the Covid-19 pandemic due to restrictions and regulations in place for the past several years.

In fact, it is the largest number of US soldiers to visit for Cobra Gold in over a decade, according to US military officials.

And yes, before our readers ask, many soldiers will have liberty and time off in Pattaya but will be under many rules and the watchful eye of Shore Leave Guard (SLG) and others. Sharp sighted local residents have already spotted advance teams of US military senior officials surveying the area and ensuring things are safe for arriving soldiers, like we described here.

Secondly, next week starts the month long music festival which is expected to draw tens of thousands of domestic tourists to Pattaya for the festival which will take place every weekend on local beaches.

The festival will be a boon for the local tourism economy but for some ex-pats will be a thorn as multiple road closures will be scheduled during the weekends the fest runs. For instance, next weekend the festival will take place on the third and fourth of March on three stages on Pattaya Beach and close traffic from 4PM to after midnight each day.

Have a safe and pleasant week!
