Protesters banned from protesting at multiple locations in Bangkok during APEC summit

Public gatherings are banned during the APEC summit at a convention center and 19 hotels in Bangkok.

The announcement was made on Friday (November 11th) from the Prime Minister’s Office. Public gatherings are banned at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and 19 hotels from November 14th to November 19th due to concerns they would disrupt the APEC Summit.

This is legally possible through the Thai Public Assembly Act.

The 19 hotels are Grand Hyatt Erawan, Anantara Siam, Park Hyatt, Rosewood Bangkok, the Okura Prestige, the Athenee, Conrad Bangkok, KIimpton Malai Bangkok, Sinthorn Kempinski Bangkok, Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit, Siam Kempinski Bangkok, So Bangkok, Waldorf Astoria, the Saint Rigis, Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, Sukhothai Bangkok, Banyan Tree Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, and Shangri-La Bangkok.

The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has asked for cooperation from everyone to be a good host and not to damage the country. This summit is very importance to Thailand.

Meanwhile ‘Rambo’ or Mr. Seksakol Atthawong, the former assistant to the Prime Minister’s Office minister said, “Please do not support Amnesty International or other groups who will come out to protest during the APEC summit. These people will damage our country.”

Protesters have been asked to submit their complaints to the website of the Foreign Ministry versus protest in person during the event.
