Thailand-
The following is our weekly feature in which we identify and cover developing or future stories happening in the week ahead.
As we publish dozens of stories a week this helps our regular readers stay focused on only a few major items to follow over the next week.
This week we cover from November 6th to November 12th, 2022.
1. Loy Krathong 2022 arrives in Thailand and Pattaya
This week the biggest thing to look out for will be the Loy Krathong festival taking place on Tuesday, November 8th across Thailand and right here in our home city of Pattaya.
The event will start around sunset, about 6PM and can be experienced of course on local beaches but also at temples and lakes and indeed nearly anywhere with a body of water.
The main attraction of the event is floating a Krathong, with increased focus on them being environmentally friendly in recent years, on a body of water to release bad karma and wish for good luck, good health, and prosperity for the next year.
Although some provinces and areas will light fireworks and sky lanterns, they are banned in Pattaya due to many high rise buildings and problems in previous years. Of course, enforcement of the ban can vary on area but the Pattaya mayor has already warned against fireworks and sky lanterns.
There will also be concerts, food vendors, and an exciting traditional atmosphere with many dressing in traditional Thai outfits for the festival. It is expected to be quite busy this year as the festival was toned down and most public events banned for the past two years due to COVID-19.
There are no scheduled road closures but local residents in Pattaya should be aware that traffic is expected to be VERY heavy especially around Pattaya Beach. Have a safe and Happy Loy Krathong!
