Pattaya —

Some Pattaya residents are peeved at the delayed construction of the public restrooms at Bali Hai Pier after it has reportedly been sitting idle for a long time.

The project had a budget of 3.88 million baht to build 32 toilets to facilitate people who came to Bali Hai Pier to take ferry services, according to local media. The construction started on December 17th, 2020, and was supposed to be completed on June 14th, 2021, or within 180 days, according to the contract.

However, the construction site has reportedly been deserted for a long time, with no workers coming to resume the project. The site was littered with debris and construction tools prompting concerns from residents about the project’s transparency and safety, local media said.

According to Pattana Boonsawad, former Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, the construction was hampered due to geographical obstructions and Covid19 restrictions that shut down almost all construction for months in 2021 and has reportedly been sitting idle ever since. Relevant Pattaya authorities said they would look into the matter soon.
