Thai Meteorological Department warns of more heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand this week

The Thai Meteorological Department on Monday, September 5th, warned of heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand and strong wind and waves in upper portions of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand this week, between September 5th to the 9th.

According to its announcement, the active monsoon trough lies across the lower North, the upper Central, and the Northeast while the southwest monsoon across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will strengthen throughout the period, resulting in more rain in the country.

Heavy to very heavy rains are possible in some of the North, the Northeast, the Central including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the South regions. The affected areas are:

North: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun

Northeast: Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani

The strong wind also forces the waves up to 2-3 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand and more than 3 meters high in thundershowers. The waves in the lower Andaman Sea are about 2 meters high and more than 2 meters high in thundershowers.

The Department warns the public to beware of severe conditions that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along the waterways near foothills and lowlands. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats keep ashore.
