Sattahip —

Two thieves who stole money from Wat Na Jomtien’s donation box were arrested by a group of rescue workers while trying to break into the temple again.

Our previous story:

The abbot of Wat Na Jomtein complained to police about two teenage thieves who have allegedly repeatedly stole money from the temple’s donation box at night.

Now for our updated story:

The leader of rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanathamasathan Foundation Numpol Chomwilai led a team of seven people to patrol Wat Na Jomtien on Monday, July 25th, following the abbot’s plea to guard the temple from the two thieves who stole money from the temple on July 24th.

As expected, the two suspects reappeared at around 11 PM, riding a black Honda Wave motorbike and parking their vehicle at the temple’s entrance. The suspects then crept into the monastery but were startled by the recuers’ presence, so they fled and hid in a clump of bamboo trees before eventually getting captured.

The first suspect was only a 17-year-old male teenager, living in Banglamung. He reportedly admitted to stealing money from the temple because he wanted to feed his baby. Another suspect Kiattisak Wongsit, 40, also reportedly confessed and said that there were two other people involved. Rescue workers were surprised at Kiattisak’s age as he appeared to look much younger both in person and on the CCTV footage. However, Banglamung police later confirmed that Kiattisak was indeed 40-years-old. Banglamung police also believe Kiattisak was the leader of the group of thieves.

The abbot Somsak Tanaro thanked the rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanathamasathan Foundation. “I am really grateful for them for putting their lives at risk to preserve Buddhism,” the abbot stated.

The two suspects were transferred to the Na Jomtien Police Station to face legal charges, as of press time.
