Pattaya-
Pattaya City Public Relations stated last evening, March 7th, 2022, that they have begun a new campaign to raise awareness around pedestrian crosswalks in Pattaya.
The campaign will be called “New consciousness, pay attention to crosswalks”.
This comes after Bangsaen recently repainted crosswalks across the area following the death of a Thai doctor at a crosswalk in Bangkok earlier this year when a speeding motorbike driver, who is a police officer, hit her while she was attempting to cross the street.
Pattaya plans to distribute a social media campaign to raise awareness for Pattaya residents, as well as ensure crosswalks are properly painted, lights working, and more signs in place. Nationally, fines are being considered to be raised for those violating crosswalk rules and not stopping for pedestrians.
Critics of Thailand’s pedestrian zebra crossings and policies, however, have consistently stated on social media that although things like awareness, painting of crosswalks, more signs, etc. are helpful, until enforcement and widespread cultural implementation of the policies take place people will likely continue to violate crosswalk rules.
