Hi News editor

I have just read your article on what do you do in Pattaya. This is maybe not relevant as I live in Phitsanulok, far to the north. When I first came here over ten years ago I became interested in King Naresuan (he was born here) and I wrote a book about him purely out of interest. That spawned a series of books; The Kings of Ayutthaya (published by Silkworm Books in Chiang Mai), The Kings of the Toungoo Empire, and The Kings of Angkor among many others.

Interestingly, it is next to impossible to get published in Cambodia and Myanmar as copyright laws are rarely enforced so it’s the Amazon Kindle self-publishing route.

The thing that amazes me is how little interest not only Thais but Falang have in the history of the country they now live in. We live here for years showing no curiosity which is often something we accuse the Thais of. You can check my stuff out at www.thekingsofayutthaya.com.

Thanks for reading.

Daryl-You have a question sent to ex-pats here in Pattaya.

How do I keep myself busy here?

2 hours of ping pong 5 days a week

1-hour swimming every day

writing a book about self-management

Constant learning from the internet and people that I meet

I attend both major ex-pat club meetings here.

Paulo-This question always perplexes me when it comes up. I mean, I understand if you live for downhill skiing, snowmobiling, or something of the sort. But the vast majority of pastimes and hobbies you enjoyed “back home” are also available here, no?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Apolo E-Jog and walk around Beach Road from Dusit Thani to the beginning of Walking Street for at least an hour back and forth every day during my holiday even if I’m drunk. It never stops.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Gordon K-After spending over 40 years at sea I’m just happy lying by my pool every day and drinking cold beer.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Laurence-Cycling, camping, surfing the net, managing investments – same as my hobbies before I moved here.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Jon W-Play my guitar, play with my 2-year-old, do Yoga, read, movies, check out interesting foods at the food stands. Avoid cynical farangs with no hobbies and nothing good to say.

John P-Ladyboys

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Guy S-Playing video games, watching Netflix, walking in Jomtien in the mornings, going to Pattaya Dolphins United games. And all accompanied by the drinking of many beers

-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-

Alex O-Shelling out baht to the wife who thinks I have a money tree somewhere in the garden.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Martin B-Gym 1st thing in the morning, then tv and video gaming to get through the heat of the day/boredom.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Steve M-Golf, food, Chuck wow, sleep. Rinse, repeat

-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-

Salcito-Cycling around the silver lake area. Spit n sawdust gym on 3rd Road. ispa or soi3 sauna steam. Buy healthy food from markets and big c. If you don’t find a hobby here you will have an early death
