“Restaurant” near Bali Hai Pier inspected for the fifth time for allegedly breaking Covid-19 rules

Pattaya –

Pattaya police inspected a “restaurant” near the Bali Hai Monday night (December 13th) for allegedly selling alcohol and being open without a permit, which is the fifth time this venue has been “raided” in recent months.

A team from the Pattaya City Police inspected the ‘Sky Mountain’ restaurant and bar where lot of Thai and foreign customers were allegedly found drinking alcohol with live music, with some not wearing masks or social distancing.

This particular restaurant was raided four times before during the past few months of Covid-19 restrictions, noted Pattaya Police. Last time the restaurant had been ordered for temporary closure until the end of November but was since allowed to reopen.

The restaurant manager is facing charges of illegally operating the venue and illegally selling alcohol, as according to police the venue did not meet all the legal qualifications to sell alcohol currently, such as SHA+ (Safety and Health Administration certification), a Covid-free setting, Thai Stop Covid Plus certification, proper social distancing, and other requirements. No customers were fined or arrested and the situation stayed calm as in prior raids on this venue customers attempted to escape potential fines or being detained by fleeing into the sea or the woods nearby.

TPN media notes this visit was also partly prompted by a viral video in which a Thai man was reportedly attacked nearby following a late-night brawl over the past weekend, although it was unclear if the brawl took place at the venue directly.

Pattaya Police meanwhile stated they will be once again reviewing the legal status of the restaurant and discussing the continued issues with relevant city and provincial officials.
